Exploring Tamarindo One Bite At A Time

By  |

4 Tamarindo eateries that are sure to please!

I am having a blast working in Tamarindo and my lunch break is quickly becoming my favorite time of day. As I explore all of the local restaurants I am falling in love with Tamarindo one bite at a time. Noteworthy favorites of mine include That’s Amore, Pasta Casera, Coffee and Waffles, and Ttiki Restaurant.

Amore-in-TamarindoThat’s Amore
Fine Italian dining with a great view!
That’s Amore is becoming one of the finest Italian dining places in Tamarindo. Established on a terrace that overlooks the beach, this restaurant is the perfect location to enjoy a meal while watching the sunset or listening to a live performer. The ambiance is set off with a good selection of soft music in the background. It has been only one year since That’s Amore began serving Italian food, but the quality of service and excellency in taste is not a new concept to the owners. Italian Co-owners Sarah Lavanna and Pete Arcieri receive their inspiration from their grandmothers. Arcieri describes their menu creation as “[making] what he knows and grew up with’. Their menu includes pasta specialties such as Linguine Amatriciana, Truffle Ravioli, and Tagliatelle. In addition to pasta, the restaurant offers a great selection of seafood options: Fritto Mixto, Octopus Salad, Filet Mignon, and Mediterranean Stuffed Seabass. Food is of high quality, consisting of the freshest ingredients and imports from Italy. Fine wines are also imported from Argentina, Italy, and France and can be paired accordingly with your meal. If you visit the restaurant on a Thursday night, you will be in for quite a spectacular performance as there are live performances such as Canadian guitarist Ryan Dale, beginning at 7pm.

Delicious empanadas and handmade pasta!
Most every person who tastes a delightful item from the menu of Pasta Casera will surely come back again for more. This cute café offers customers a variety of Argentinian and Italian delicacies ranging from toasted Panini’s, plump empanadas, rich deserts, quality cheese, and organic coffee. The authenticity behind these dishes lies in the flour-dusted hands of co-owners Andrea Zanier and Gabriela Moye, who carefully make their pasta and empanadas from scratch. Their empanadas are a popular town favorite; made daily with fresh powdery dough and filled with an array of flavorful ingredients: chicken, vegetarian, beef, caprese, or cheese and onion. Quality meats and cheeses packed into a toasty shell make for the perfect snack to eat on the go; the surfers love them! It is high quality food at jaw-dropping prices, perfect for locals and travelers alike. pasta casera tamarindo cr3Zanier and Moye’s pasta is also a hot topic amongst customers. At Pasta Casera you can enjoy a variety of pasta sauces to choose from including Rojo (red) Bolognese, and pesto. Zanier and Moye also offer frozen packages of their hand-made pasta, perfect for you to enjoy their delicious pasta in the comfort of your home or hostel.

Coffee and Waffles
Classic golden waffles that wake up your taste buds!
Coffee and Waffles is the only place in Tamarindo you can find hot, fresh waffles for breakfast. This small café has been open for less than a year, but they have experienced instant success and popularity around town-and for good reason. Not only do they offer your classic golden buttered waffles but they come packed with surprises that can be enjoyed during any time of the day. Choices include bacon, pecan-chocolate, ham and cheese, and cranberry-orange. And if these don’t impress you, their menu will soon be introducing two more creative waffles: turkey and gravy, and banana split! Careful consideration is taken for those with dietary restrictions: gluten-free batter, decaf coffee and sugar free syrup are available. I give Coffee and Waffles an A+ in my book.

Ttiki Restaurant (Le Beach Club)
Quality food and a good time!
Ttiki Restaurant is the latest addition to Le Beach Club that opened up for business nearly 5 months ago. It’s a spot that you definitely want to check out if you’re new or returning to town. The restaurant is one of few in town that has a personal and experienced chef; in fact, chef Vincent Larronde has one of the highest culinary ratings in Tamarindo, gracing Trip Advisor top charts in previous years. Many of his popular dishes include whole red snapper roasted with sea salt and lemon, mussels cooked in a white cream sauce, and fresh seared tuna. He thanks his highly advanced ‘magical’ oven for the excellency of his dishes-so don’t think for a second that you can replicate his meals at home!

Ttiki Restaurant has perks for travelers every day of the week, ranging from happy hour between 4-6p.m., BBQ on the beach starting at 5pm, and live performances Wednesday through Friday. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a meal before or after kayaking, surfing, and sailing tours.
